Extra Gooey Salted Brown Butter Rice Krispie Treats

Makes 16 servings

Ingredients

½ cup butter (1 stick)

2 10-oz bags mini marshmallows, separated

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

½ teaspoon flaky sea salt + more for sprinkling on top

6 cups Rice Krispies cereal

Preparation

Spray a 9 x 9 inch pan with cooking spray and set aside.

Melt the butter in a large pot over medium-low heat. After the butter has completely melted, continue to let it cook, stirring occasionally, until the butter starts to brown and smells toasted, about 2-3 minutes. During this time, the butter will foam, turn a golden yellow color, and eventually start to brown. Remove the pan from the heat.

Add 8-cups of mini-marshmallows to the browned butter, and stir until the marshmallows have completely melted. Add the vanilla and sea salt. Stir to combine. Add the Rice Krispies cereal and mix well.

Add the remaining marshmallows and stir to combine. Gently press the rice krispies into the prepared pan, being sure to press the mixture firmly and evenly into the corners and edges of the pan. If you like, finish by sprinkling extra flaky sea salt on top.

Let cool for one hour before cutting into squares.
